After 15 years in the retail wine business in Atlanta and more than 30 trips to the vineyards of Europe and California I opened Cellar 13 in December of 2008 to reflect my own vision of a fine wine shop. Every bottle at Cellar 13 is hand selected. I taste exhaustively to find the very best wines at each price point and in each category. I generally work with small, family owned, estate bottled producers rather than large, commercial wineries and brands as I feel these wines translate a more personal touch and ultimately, higher quality.
French selections are especially strong at Cellar 13 with Burgundy, Rhone Valley, Bordeaux and Loire Valley wines thoroughly represented. I like the classics. Additionally, I’m a huge fan of Italian wines particularly Barolos and wines from southern Italy. Spanish and Austrian choices round out a broad European selection. From the West Coast I choose wines based on my palate preference and years of experience, not the press. There are numerous California producers making outstanding wines that fly under the radar. I think Washington state has huge potential with Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot so I like to explore the Pacific Northwest for thrilling wines.
